Black Cat Rescue at the Sanctuary

The Story of Three Cats

First off, if you look through history you see the black cat has been given an evil reputation. To start with we see them as the witches’ familiar. When you see pictures of witches or see Halloween decorations there is always a black cat somewhere close by. We hear people say as we walk down the sidewalk “Don’t let a black cat cross your path.” For some reason, this is supposed to bring bad luck if they do.

We’re here to say this is BUNK. You will only have “bad luck” with a black cat or any cat if you make it mad. It will then scratch or bite you. We have several now at the Sanctuary, but I want to focus on three very special ones. They are Midnight, a black cat with a mission, and her two helpers Abby and Django. Her mission is to rescue as many black cats and kittens as she can. She does this partly because of the reputation history has given them. It’s also partly because she is a rescue herself. She discovered Crazy Cat Sanctuary and Black Cat Rescue. A D-O-G family helped her when they realized they can not give her what she needed. When new cats or kittens arrive, Midnight and her team want to know right away. They are eager to see if there are any black ones in the group. Yes, she loves them all. Yet, if there are any blacks in the group, she and her team take them under paw. They show them what life should be like for them. The nice thing though, she is no longer on her own in this mission as she was in the beginning. She is always recruiting the biggest and smallest black cats to her mission. She calls her team the “Black Cat Rescue Squad.” DJango and Abby are her sidekicks like Batman and Robin or Green Lantern and Kato. The three of them welcome new black cats and kittens. Afterward, the team looks after them. They teach them the true ways of the black cat. These kids love their humans and other black cats. At the same time, they get as much love as they can from us and each other. She knows when she is finally too old to take care of the group. She has a dedicated team of cats and kittens ready to keep the mission going. Along with the humans who are always ready to help. Right Midnight?

“Meowwll”

Does this sound like a cat that wants to do evil with witches? Does it seem like it would bring bad luck if it crosses your path? It’s time to change this attitude. The “Black Cat Rescue Squad” of Midnight, DJango, and Abby want to make it happen. They are determined to do it one human at a time if necessary.

Sadly, we have lost Midnight’s sidekicks as Ms. Abby decided to join one of our tame ferals, Ms. Ann, and return to the feral colony, and Mr. Django passed on of old age. He was a senior of 10 years when he and Cobain came in. We are glad to say that Ms. Midnight is still working hard with her “Black Cat Rescue” and has two new sidekicks helping her with the fight. Even though she is now one of our seniors, she still has the attitude of a young girl. Whenever we get new cats or kittens, she insists on checking for her black brothers and sisters.

I did say she has a new set of ‘sidekicks’ but they are not pure black. Each one has a little spot of white on their chest that just completes their look. Does she care? NO, not in the least. She fell for them when they came in, and now she welcomes Ms. Maya and Ms. Sabrina as official members of her welcome and rescue team. Even when she’s too old to continue as the rescue leader, she won’t have to worry. She has put a terrific team together. According to her, that includes her humans, too.

Something new she started with our smallest cat, Mr. Teddy Roosevelt, is the ‘Black Kitten Training Team’. She can be spotted overseeing the training with Teddy. They bring up these kids in the way of the BLACK CAT. No, we know he’s not a black cat, but Midnight doesn’t care. She loves the young man and both paws picked and trained him in what he needed to know. His story later.

Over time, you will see Midnight and her new sidekicks in new fiction adventures. They will rescue kittens and cats. They will also solve mysteries with her “Black Cat Rescue Team”.
