Beauty from Brokenness: Crafting Eternal Armor in My Darkest Hour
My spiritual journey commenced at the tender age of five, when I embraced Christ Jesus as my personal Savior. Throughout my youth, I endured the painful reality of being an outcast, undesired by adults, peers, and, as I discovered, even within the community of faith. I desperately needed to grasp that the sole perspective of consequence belonged to the Lord; regrettably, this profound realization did not take root easily. Instead, I found myself retreating to the shadows, seeking absolute invisibility while constantly dreading the physical torment of schoolyard bullies.
True reliance on the Creator eluded me until the devastating heartbreak of my mother’s passing at age sixteen. Simultaneously, the heavy physical burdens of perpetual migraines and the agonizing grip of fibromyalgia first manifested. For years, medical experts dismissed these debilitating symptoms as mere hypochondria, routinely discharging me with nothing but anti-anxiety medications until I reached twenty-one. Later, during my time living in San Antonio, I confronted the harsh isolation of racial alienation.
Yet, a transformative turning point arrived as I began activating the holy scriptures I had diligently studied since kindergarten, purposefully donning my protective spiritual defense with each new dawn. Ultimately, it required more than two decades to genuinely walk out the principles detailed in these pagesβprofound lessons that had been preserved within His divine Word all along. Through every distinct trial, He was persistently beckoning me to listen closely and move in active obedience, reinforcing the ultimate truth that His declaration alone holds true authority.
I learned that nothing carries eternal weight except the sacred Sword, the Shield, the Breastplate, the Sandals, and the Belt of truth. These are not mere symbols but essential, supernatural protections that must be worn through a life consecrated to God. In this present season, I find myself still gazing upon an image of the Garden of Gethsemane to remind my spirit to don that protective spiritual defense and press forward. Even now, I continue to confront the heavy physical burdens of mobility difficulties, relentless chronic migraines, and trying interpersonal afflictions.
Just as you must, I require this daily equipping of the Almighty’s protection. Spiritual strength is not automatic; it is built through surrender and the intentional use of the Word of God as our offensive weapon and protective shield. Let us forever hold fast to our Eternal Armor, reflecting deeply upon the sacred words of Christ Jesus during His agony in the Garden: “Not my will, but Thine be done, Father”.
