The Story of Three Cats
First off, if you look through history, you will see they have given the black cat an evil reputation. To begin with, they see them as the witch’s familiar. When you see pictures of witches or Halloween decorations, there’s always a black cat somewhere close by. We hear people as we walk down the sidewalk. “Don’t let a black cat cross your path.” This is supposed to bring bad luck if they do.
We’re here to say this is BUNK. The only way you have “bad luck” with a black cat, or any cat, is if you make it mad and it scratches or bites you. We have several Black Beauties currently at the Sanctuary, but I want to focus on three exceptional ones. They are Midnight, a black cat with a mission, and her two helpers, Abby and Django. Her mission is to rescue as many black cats and kittens as possible, partly because of the reputation history has given them and partly because she is a rescue cat herself. She found Crazy Cat Sanctuary and Black Cat Rescuewith the help of a D-O-G family who knew they couldn’t give her what she needed. When we have new cats or kittens come to the sanctuary, Midnight and her team immediately need to know if there are any black ones in the group. Yes, she loves them all, but if there are any blacks in the group, she and her team take them under paw to show them what life should be like for them. The good news is that she’s no longer working alone on this assignment, as she was at first. She’s always recruiting the biggest and smallest black cats for her mission. She calls her team the “Black Cat Rescue Squad.” DJango and Abby are her sidekicks, like Batman and Robin or Green Lantern and Kato. The three cats welcome new black cats and kittens, and then the team looks after them as they teach them the authentic ways of the black cat. These kids provide as much love as possible to the new black cats while also loving Mom, Daddy, and Sister, and other black cats who call the sanctuary home. She also understands that she has a committed team of cats and kittens ready to carry on the task when she eventually becomes too elderly to manage the organization, along with the humans who are always ready to help. Isn’t that right, Midnight?
“Meowwll”
Does this sound like a cat, or a team of cats, that wants to do evil with witches or bring bad luck if it crosses your path? It’s time to change this attitude, and the “Black Cat Rescue Squad,” of Midnight, DJango, and Abby, aim to make it happen, one human at a time if necessary.
We sadly lost Mr. Django and Ms. Abby, Midnight’s sidekicks, who joined one of our tame feral cats, Ms. Ann, and returned to the wild colony. Mr. DJango was a senior of 10 years when he and Cobain came in. We are glad to say, though, that Ms. Midnight is still working hard with her “Black Cat Rescue” and has two new sidekicks helping her with the fight. Even though she is now one of our seniors, she still has the attitude of a young girl. Whenever we get new cats or kittens, she insists on checking for her black brothers and sisters.
She has a new set of ‘sidekicks,’ but they are not pure black. Each one has a little spot of white on their chest that just completes their look. Does she care? She doesn’t care at all. She fell for them when they came in, and now she welcomes Ms. Maya and Ms. Sabrina as official members of her welcome and rescue team. Even when she’s too old to continue as the rescue leader, she won’t have to worry because she has put a terrific team together, and according to her, that includes her humans, too.
Something new she started with our smallest cat, Mr. Teddy Roosevelt, is the ‘Black Kitten Training Team‘. We can spot her overseeing the training with Teddy as they bring up these kids in the way of the BLACK CAT. No, we know he’s not a black cat, but Midnight doesn’t care. She loves the young man, and he has been paw-picked and trained in what he needs to know. Teddy’s story will be told later.
Over time, you’ll be able to catch up with Midnight and her new friends in fresh fiction adventures as they use her “Black Cat Rescue Team” to solve mysteries while rescuing kittens and cats.
